Our History… so far
Rino’s was originally opened in the autumn of 2010 by then chef/owner Rino Bortolin with the goal of creating a food experience built around locally sourced food and drink in a quaint and comfortable environment. In 2015 the restaurant changed hands to long-time Sous Chef and now Owner/Chef, Josh Fraser. Josh had joined the staff quickly after the restaurant’s inception and had been writing the menu for years at the point of the changeover. He’d always dreamed of owning his own restaurant and took the chance!
While Josh kept the name and ethos of the restaurant, he took steps to reimagine the restaurant’s menus and decor and expanded the liquor licence to include our beautiful backyard beer garden and dining area. Josh began growing many of the herbs in dishes on-site, and expanding the purchasing range to acquire ingredient not available in the Windsor Essex County. Josh also put a renewed effort on special events; regularly hosting local musicians and making the space a desirable location for private weddings, reunions, anniversaries and more for groups of 120 or less.
Located at 131 Elliott Street West (formerly the Nesbitt Inn), the historic 100 year old house is cozy setting to enjoy our freshly prepared menu. Our beer garden (open May-September) is truly a hidden gem in the heart of the city. A simple escape from the usual street-side patios, Rino’s Kitchen is a perfect place for an intimate dinner with family and friends, a quick drink after work with your colleagues or to share in the important days that you’ll never forget.
